Ma Bell’s service difficult to beat
Dear Editor:Kudos to our state legislators working with local cities and governments so diligently to bring AT&T aboard to compete with our cable companies, who now have a monopoly on our business (I even tried Direct TV and they could not get a signal at our house).
So, based on the Charter cable promo, I purchased the Level 3 for my phones, cable and Internet services, however, when they came to install the system, my 100 buck per month I was sold - for a year - turned into 120 bucks! So I didn’t save as much money as promised. They told me Level 5 only was available when installation was made!
One problem - I now have part-time phone service as well as cable. The cable “drops” phone calls just like some cell phones - and the caller dropped cannot call back!
With one exception - I have learned over the years, competition is what makes the business world what it is today. The exception is the old Southern Bell Telephone Company which was the only service in town.
My dear Fay was hired by Southern Bell, as a toll operator in 1951, then went to the business office as a teller - she then became a service representative - next promotion was a traveling, district coach. Her last position was the district supervisor’s secretary before she resigned in July 1963.
I challenge anyone old enough to remember the fifties and sixties of any business that gave better service than Ma Bell!
Thanks for your time and patience.
Sincerely,
Leroy Rogers
