Spencer named Tennessee Mother of the Year

Tennessee Mothers Association of American Mothers Inc.

Cheryl Spencer, of Louisville, has been named the Tennessee Mother of the Year by the Tennessee Mothers Association of American Mothers Inc. Spencer competed for the National Mother of the Year title in April at the National Convention of American Mothers Inc. in Lincoln, Neb.

Jean Smith, committee chair who chose Spencer for the Tennessee Mother of the Year, described her as a wonderful person who works very hard on two jobs. She works for the East Tennessee Head Injury Organization and for the Arc of Tennessee, located in Nashville, helping people with disabilities to get the services they need. She has six adult children, one of whom is disabled. She is also involved in working in her church.

Alicia Spencer, the honoree's daughter-in-law, said, "Cheryl can be considered a role model for every generation, offering a teaching of love and forgiveness, especially in a society where our children are losing basic values. She has managed through life's trials and tribulations to maintain her strongest values, which are her family and to live by the Heavenly Father's teachings. When I think of Cheryl, Wonder Woman and Mother Teresa come to mind. This is the only person I have ever met that has been the closest to a living saint that I could ever imagine."

Spencer was honored by the Tennessee Mothers Association, family and friends at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 400 Kendall St., Knoxville, on May 3.

American Mothers Inc. is an interfaith, non-profit, non-political organization working as a dedicated force to strengthen the moral and spiritual foundations of the family and the home. For more information, visit www.americanmothers.org.
