Baumgardner celebrates 85th birthday
Glen H. Baumgardner, of Maryville, will celebrate his 85th birthday with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Centenary Baptist Church fellowship hall.
He was born May 11, 1923, in Blount County, to the late Wayne and Grace Baumgardner.
His family includes wife, Willadean Baumgardner, and children Patricia Brackett, Janice Woody and Pamela Talbott, all of Maryville, and the late Debra Sellers. She has six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Baumgardner is retired from ALCOA Inc.
He is a member of Centenary Baptist Church, Mountain View Lodge 519, Mary Blount Order of the Eastern Star 133, Maryville Chapter 186, Pride Council 103, Cypress Commandry 23.
Everett to have 90th birthday
Myrtle (Mrs. Max) Everett will celebrate her 90th birthday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. May 18 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall on Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville. Family and friends are invited to attend.
She requests no gifts, but honorariums may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church building fund.
Mrs. Everett was born May 20, 1918, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Best.
Her family includes sons Bobby and Bill Everett, daughter-in-law Kay, grandchildren Amy Everett, of Charleston, S.C., Lynn Everett, of Maryville, Ed and Angie Everett, of Lexington, Ky,, and Everett and Ashlie Christen, of Maryville. Her great-grandchildren are Max, Will and Anna Kate Everett and Spenser Christen.
Mrs. Everett has been a member of Pleasant Grove for 54 years.
McCall to have 90th birthday
James Ollie McCall, of Maryville, will celebrate his 90th birthday from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at his home.
He was born May 9, 1918, in Knox County, to Sam and Clemintine McCall. He was married to the late Elsie West.
His family includes children James (Bobbie) McCall, of Greenback, Wand (Pepe) Mendez, of Virginia, Tom (Mickie) McCall, of Greenback and Doris (Dennis) Ridenour), of Maryville. He has 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. McCall was employed at ALCOA Inc.
He attends Bakers Creek Presbyterian Church.

Lee makes dean's list at Washington
Lily Lee, a 2004 graduate of Maryville High School, was named to the dean's list at the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington for winter quarter 2008.
She is the daughter of Vickie and Paul Lee, of Maryville.
Bustin enters Phi Eta Sigma
Anna Bustin, a 2007 Maryville High School graduate, was recently inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. To be considered for induction, a student has to have at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Anna is a pre-pharmacy major at the University of Tennessee. She is the daughter of Brent and Tracy Bustin.
Students in spring musical
Two Maryville students were among close to 200 Lipscomb University students performing in the school's 45th annual spring musical spectacular, "Singarama," one of the most beloved traditions at the 117-year-old university.
Local students include Jessica Ohgren and Caroline Newhouse, both of Maryville.
Military
Scheuring graduates assault school
Army Staff Sgt. Brian D. Scheuring has graduated from the U.S. Army Air Assault School at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, and earned the honor of wearing the Air Assault Badge.
The two-week school is fast-paced, 61-hour course of formal instruction which focuses on hands-on, performance-oriented training.
Scheuring, an automated logistical specialist, is assigned to the 27th Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Calvary Division at Fort Bliss. The staff sergeant has served in the military for 10 years.
He is the son of Barbara Smith, of Lake Worth, Fla. and brother of Rebecca Scheuring, of Maryville. He graduated from Palm Beach Lakes Community High School and Central Texas College.
